It bleeds — so the window moves
Maple runs sap heavily in late winter. Cutting at bud break produces dramatic bleeding that is largely cosmetic but entirely avoidable: cut in deep dormancy, or wait until midsummer after the flush has hardened. That is why the maple row in the pruning calendar has two separate blocks rather than one.

Notice that mulch appears in all three rows. It is the highest-value intervention available for a stressed maple, and it is cheaper than anything injected — the argument is laid out in deep root feeding versus the surface. Size the ring in the mulch calculator.
Structure: watch the forks
Maples form codominant unions readily, and a young one corrected with secateurs is a two-second job that never becomes a rigging job. If a mature tree already has a tight fork with included bark, that is a cabling conversation rather than a pruning one.
On the woodpile
Sugar maple sits just below oak on the heat table at roughly 23 to 25 million BTU per cord and seasons in about a year rather than two — a better practical combination than oak for most people. Silver maple is a different tree entirely and burns considerably faster; the table in the BTU chart lists both.
